The planet earth is slowly deteriorating due to man-made activities. But it is not too late to take action now by switching to a sustainable lifestyle.

While the whole world is focused and worried about the current pandemic, there is a much bigger problem on the planet earth. It is deteriorating. Microsoft billionaire founder Bill Gates predicted serious climate change in a few decades down the road.

“As awful as this pandemic is, climate change could be worse,” Gates says.

Now, it is time for everyone to do their part to be more environmentally conscious and shift to a green living. Here are the 3 sustainable ways to incorporate into your busy life:

1. Shop at zero waste store

It’ll take 450 years to decompose just for one single plastic bottle.

It is undeniable that majorities’ daily necessities such as shampoo, laundry detergent, tissues, toothbrushes and so on are packaged with plastic material. Imagine buying a new shampoo bottle every month and living up to 70 years old, it is equivalent to 840 of plastic bottles produced by one person that wind up in the waste. By 2050, we’ll be living among mountains of plastic waste. According to the researchers, they estimated that it’ll take 450 years to decompose just for one single plastic bottle. Yikes! These plastic bottles will break down into tiny little microplastic particles that’ll end up in the ocean. Consequently, it will end up consumed by sea animals as well as humans too. To reduce the pollution, shopping at a zero-waste store would be a good alternative. Zero-waste stores basically eliminate the unnecessary packaging by selling everything in bulk. Hence, shoppers are encouraged to bring their own containers from home to fill and refill. This way, there’ll be less plastic waste produced. Stores like these sell pretty much everything ranging from groceries, cleaning, beauty related products and so on.

2. Recycling can make a difference

Recycle. Countless people may have probably heard of this word a bazillion times, even wondering if recycling makes a difference. The answer is yes. Most daily products at home can be recycled like milk cartons, cans, cardboard, clothes, paper, glass, you name it. Try looking for recycle station nearby. Apart from that, fast fashion trends have become a huge issue as well. Thus, retail stores such as H&M, Uniqlo, Wacoal and Monki came up with recycling programs by embracing more environmentally conscious initiatives. These retail stores collect preloved or used clothing and offer vouchers in return to those who participated.

3. Switch to an eco-friendly reusable menstrual product

Did you know the average woman consumes more than 10,000 disposable sanitary products in her lifetime?

Menstrual waste is no exception when it comes to saving the earth. This one is for all the ladies out there. Did you know the average woman consumes more than 10,000 disposable sanitary products in her lifetime? Surprisingly, menstrual waste has become a huge problem as they came in with individual plastic packaging. It is worse when they end up in landfills as plastic waste as they are not recyclable. To reduce pollution, switching from disposable to reusable menstrual products is a great alternative. Menstrual cup is the most common among the sustainable community, it is a bell-shaped medical grade silicone cup that inserts into the vagina. It collects the blood rather than absorbing. The benefit of using a menstrual cup is that it can last up to 10 years by washing and reusing. Apart from saving the earth, it also saves you a hefty amount of money as well.

If not now, then when?

It all starts with you to save the earth. However, getting into a sustainable lifestyle is not an overnight success, it might be difficult or even confusing at first. But little accumulation can develop a habit out of it. Don’t be ashamed of living a sustainable lifestyle, be ashamed of doing nothing. So, go ahead and bring along your reusable bags, take the lead in your group of friends and family because if not now, then when?
